One of the great Loire whites from the steep hill of Breze in Saumur with vines nearly 100 years old planted on chalk and limestone soils. Romain Guiberteau makes dry Chenin of “punk rock violence, yet of Bach-like logic and profoundness,” according to importer Becky Wasserman. This Chenin is taut with exceptional tension and texture after being aged in neutral oak for a year. Notes of beeswax, smoky citrus, pear, wet stone, honeycomb, and nutmeg are supercharged in the glass with incredible acidity and a long, lingering mineral finish. Patience will be rewarded with this one as it locks in to a more mature character. Pair with chicken liver mousse, Peking duck, or Thai chili spot prawns. Organic farming.
