Bruno Clair is a sixth generation winemaker who began the eponymous estate in 1979. The majority of the estate’s focus is in Marsannay in the far north of the Cote de Nuits. “Les Vaudenelles” is a three acre, south facing site sitting at over 1,000 feet of elevation with 50+ year old vines. This wine sees 15% whole cluster fermentation and ages in 25% new French barrels for 18 months. Pouring a pretty purple in the glass the bouquet features dried rose petals, macerated cherries, gravel, and faint baking spice. The medium bodied palate is lifted and expressive with blood orange, black cherries, cranberries, wet earth, fresh minerality, and a faint meatiness. This has wonderful energy and crunchiness to it. Pair with pheasant or sautéed mushrooms.
