The flagship wine of the Castellare estate, the “I Sodi di San Niccolo” is comprised of 85% Sangiovese (Sangioveto) and 15% Malvasia Nera. The wine ages for 24 months in barrique (50% new) and an additional year in bottle. The 2019 is almost opaque in the glass and brims with a nose of cherries, blackberries, sage, and licorice. The palate entices with ripe notes of cherry compote, dark berry, plum, camphor, garrigue, and cigar box. While relatively new world in style, this is a consistent top performer from this Tuscan estate. A powerful wine will age gracefully for the next 10-20 years. Decant for several hours if drinking today.
