“The name Terreno dates back to the year 1540 as a result of a new land classification done at the time. Later on in the 18th century during excavations at the winery a tombstone was found of a certain “Lignanus” – a Roman who died in 46 A.D. From research and documents found it was ascertained that Lignanus cultivated a vineyard and produced a famed wine. Thus it was established that Terreno is one of the oldest wine producers in Italy.”

The ’98 Terreno is a Sangiovese matured long enough to display a raw, bloody flavor profile. There is dark, ripened berry fruit, of course, but struck with leather and black spice. Mature characteristics separate this Chianti from the youthful. Enjoy with gamey dried sausages, meat lasagna and charred vegetables. Medium bodied with hints of juicy cherry acidity remain. A very mature, complex nose, with dried brush, soft wood notes and dried cherries. Light on the palate, soft and smooth, some dark chocolate, but mainly very soft red cherry fruit. Very smooth and rounded. Great with food, but was plenty well balanced to have afterwards without. this is still a fine and well-crafted Chianti
