For those who relish the joys of traditional Piedmonte, Roagna is truly a gift! There are few wineries that offer such a bounty of complexity, brilliant fruit, great structure, and dense, earthy minerality.

Proprietor Luca Roagna is the 4th generation winemaker and his techniques have remained relatively unchanged over the years. The fermentation process still includes a lengthy 60-day maceration before aging in large, seasoned Slavonian oak for three to five years, then bottled without fining or filtration. This ensures the wines fully express the purity of the fruit and the nuances of the terroir.

2008 seems to be yet another profound vintage for Barbaresco, particularly Roagna, who always releases quite late when he feels the wines have fully settled; these wines need to be perfect in Luca’s eyes.

Knockout musky nose offers slightly decadent aromas of cherry liqueur, currant, plum and tobacco. Fat and plush on entry, then a bit closed on the back half. The serious tannins avoid coming off as dry but will require several years to harmonize with the wine's fruit. Very long on the aftertaste. This fragrant, stunning wine opens with layers of aromas that include blue flower, rose, baking spices, sandalwood and perfumed berry that follow through to crushed red cherry, cinnamon, white pepper and thyme flavors. Made from vines that are more than 60 years old, it's delicious and impeccably balanced with freshness and big, velvety tannins.

The name Pajé is derived from the local dialect, which historically were used to name each parcel of land. Pajé is one of the historic vineyards of the village of Barbaresco and it located in the center of the area planted to vines. Pajé is particularly rich in calcareous marl soil with a high content of active limestone.
The vineyard covers a total of 1.83 Ha (4.52 Acres) with unique soil and microclimate.
The amphitheater of Pajé opens onto the Tanaro river valley which mitigates the cold winters and hot summers. Pajé is a small strip of land facing South West
