Ridge Lytton Springs 2009

Ridge Lytton Springs 2009

74% Zinfandel, 23% Petite Sirah, 6% Carignane |

Drink Between: Now - 2025

Nose of ripe black cherry and raspberry with pepper, licorice, charcoal, and tobacco. Rich black fruit on the full, viscous palate. Well defined tannins and a layered finish. Firm tannic backbone from 23% Petite Sirah. Smoky, structured and subtle. The vineyard’s 34 parcels were picked and fermented separately on their natural yeasts. After blind tasting, the 23 lots deemed to best exemplify the vintage were blended together. The result is the perfect balance of old-vine tannic complexity with brighter tones from the younger Zinfandel. The proportion of new oak was reduced slightly to allow for a full expression of the fruit and elegance from this particular vintage. Records of this prestigious vineyard date to the 1870s and Captain William Litton. Ridge produces with minimal intervention techniques including: hand-harvesting, minimal sulfur, and a light fining with egg whites. The wine was aged for fourteen months in American oak (18% new).
