Jaboulet Cote Rotie "Pierrelles" 2009

150.00

100% Syrah   |  Drink Between: Now - 2020

From the Cote Blonde, this vintage reveals classic notes of black olives, focused black raspberries, sweet cherries, smoked meat and earth. Sourced from 40+ year old vines, this Rotie was aged in French oak (20% new). At this stage in development tertiary notes of raisins and prunes as well as dried fruit are beginning to shine through. Ripe and medium-bodied with balanced tannin, it comes across as structured and closed, so give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 10-15 years. It is unquestionably the finest Cote Rotie Jaboulet has produced since the 1960s. Tight and chewy, with deep ruby coloring and aromas of red and dark berry preserves, floral oil and licorice, with a mineral topnote. Juicy, and floral pastille flavors show impressive energy and pick up a smoky quality with air. The mineral quality carries through onto the finish, which features a bracing bitter cherry quality.  pastis, blackberry pâte de fruit and roasted spice notes up front, followed by racy briar, sweet tapenade and singed iron on the back end. Shows solid range and typicity.

From a biodynamically terraced 1.5 ha plot in Côte Blonde that is comprised of decomposed mica-schist and decomposed iron oxide, with the mother rock jutting out from the earth throughout. At the northernmost point in France where Syrah ripens properly.
