Cune Rioja Gran Reserva Imperial 2009

80.00

The ‘09 Imperial Gran Reserva, the textbook blend of Tempranillo with 15% Graciano and Mazuelo, is fermented in oak vats with malo in barrels (part did it in cement) where it matured for two years and the bottles rested in their caves for no less than three years before being released. In this ripe and approachable vintage the wine is full bodied yet soft and round. This highly complex Rioja boasts an almost overwhelming nose with a majestic bouquet included, but not limited to, notes of: dark berries, savory dried fruits and flowers, an intriguing dash of forest floor and mushrooms, cherry pie, espresso, pipe tobacco and herbal tea. On the palate classic notes inherited from the American oak impress with balsamic notes of incense, baking spice, vanilla, cigar ash, old furniture and good, ripe black fruit in the background. The palate shows silky, chewy and abundant tannins, slightly grainy in nature and an ending that is quite lengthy, dry and smokey. The refined structure walks the line between tension and beauty.

Decant two hours in advance is recommended.
